Gift for your Family

As a wife, mother, and insurance agent I am passionate about educating people about insurance.   Life insurance is not generally a subject people get excited to talk about.  September is Life Insurance Awareness month so I feel compelled to talk about it.  I have been talking about it for a long time.  At the ripe old age of 22 I got licensed to sell life insurance.  After several months of training at Erie Insurance my job was to assist independent agents (like our agency) in selling life insurance.  At that young age I was and still am indivisible.  Nevertheless even at 22 I believed in the product and I bought a policy.  A lot has happened since then.  With a husband, two small children and 2 employees who all rely on me financially my need for life insurance has greatly increased.  When my son arrived I bought a lot more and I decided to purchase both term and permanent.

Let’s be honest I do not pay the bill for life insurance every month for me.  In fact it is just the opposite.  It is the greatest gift you could ever give to your family and those that depend on you for their family’s income.  Indivisible as I am if I get hit by a bus tomorrow there is a lot of things my husband would need to deal with and the last thing I want him worrying about is money.  Who knows when he would feel like coming back to work at the office we now share?  I want there to be plenty of cash so he can pay my amazing employees in his absence without them having any worries too.

In the 15 years O’Connor Insurance has been in business we have written hundreds of life insurance policies.  We have also had the unfortunate experience of having several clients pass away.  When we receive that terrible news I always hold my breath saying a quick prayer we have life insurance for that client.  Two clients we had life insurance for died very unexpectedly.   One dear client battled cancer and knew months in advance her time was limited.  The policy she had taken out years before had a provision allowing her to get some of the cash face value before she died which allowed her to take a special trip with her son and pay some medical expenses she wanted taken care of.  There was a young client and mother that I had discussed life insurance with who passed away without any insurance.  It is still painful to recall even though it is years later that she didn’t buy the policy.

You are as young and as healthy as you will ever be today.  People often want to wait until they drop a few pounds or quit smoking but when it comes to life unless you can predict your death there is not a good excuse for waiting.  Buy as much as your budget can afford right now.  Your family will be so thankful.  The greatest gift you can ever give your family is financial security while they are grieving.   Don’t wait.
