How would it feel?

The day you buy a home is a day filled with pride, excitement, nervousness and relief. You rapidly start building memories and accumulating the things that make a house feel like your home; a safe place for you and your family. However, imagine for a moment that you lose that home and all your valuables and belongings within. What would that day feel like? It would be devastating to say the least.

You’d have questions, worries and needs that required prompt attention. That’s where we’d come in. At O’Connor Insurance, we want to be the trusted agency you can turn to when the devastating moments literally hit home.

So, what exactly is Homeowners Insurance?

It is financial protection against disasters to and within your home. A standard policy insures the house itself and the items kept within the home. Homeowners insurance is a package policy, which means it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family sustain or cause to others.

Keep in mind, there are exceptions as to what is covered. For example, if the roof blows off your home during a storm you have coverage. If that same storm causes the creek behind your house to flow over the creek bank and into your house there isn’t any coverage on your homeowners policy. A homeowner must buy separate policy for flood. All home maintenance-related problems are the homeowners‘ responsibility like when the air conditioner finally gives up during the heat of the summer

Why Do You Need Homeowners Insurance?

Homeowners insurance can help you reestablish your home when something unexpected happens and keep you financially stable in the event of an accident on your property. A home is a huge investment for many; therefore adequate insurance is necessary to keep that investment safe and sound.

Why Do You Need Homeowners Insurance?

There are several different home policies you can purchase. Most policies are an HO3. At our agency we offer an HE-7 with an HE-21 endorsement (HE7/21).

It sounds confusing, right? Basically, there is a very big difference between the two policies. The HE-7/21 offers additional coverage built into the policy providing you with a much better value for your money.

Here are just a few examples to show the differences in coverage:

> Imagine you are doing a quick DIY project over the weekend and spill paint all over your dining room table and Oriental rug–accidents happen. The table and the rug would be covered by the HE7/21 but NOT covered by the HO3.

> If someone breaks into your home and steals jewelry items, the HE7/21 would cover up to $5500 for all your jewelry (maximum per item is $1500). The HO3 only covers $3000 total (maximum per item is $1,000).

> If your home sustained fire damage or other insurance-covered loss and you were not able to live in the house the HE7/21 policy would PAY YOUR MORTGAGE and still pay for you to live somewhere else up to the limit on your policy. The HO3 would NOT pay your mortgage.

> If the toilet in your master bath backs up and leaks all over the downstairs kitchen, the HE7/21 would provide up to $20,000 for damages. The HO3 would provide NOTHING.

These are just a few examples of the comprehensive coverage your money can buy on an HE7/21 policy. It is a contemporary package of protection designed to meet your home protection needs.

Customizing to your needs

Ultimately, every homeowner has different needs. At ISU O’Connor Insurance Associates an agent will walk you through a series of questions to learn more about you, gather specific information about your home and personal belongings, and what your personal needs are. During the conversation the agent will help educate you, clarify the jargon, simplify the process and lay out the options so you can make an informed buying decision. No two homes nor families are alike; your neighbors insurance shouldn’t be exactly like your insurance. Your needs are unique and your insurance policy should reflect them. We are a family business, so we know how delicate the subject of your home can be and it’s just as important to us to provide thorough, reliable policies as it is to you. No homeowner should face losing their home to an incident or their valuable heirlooms to theft, however, it happens every day and its worth it to be prepared with an experienced agent.
