New Year New Resolutions or Expected Results?

It’s January so talk of new year’s resolutions is in full swing.  Read a great article about it.  Rather than making “resolutions” or setting “goals” Jeffrey Gitomer suggests we drop our resolutions and goals and refer to what you want as “my intended and expected achievement.”  Think about it if you are just throwing a goal or resolution out there to see if it sticks then it really is just a hope and a prayer.  If you are working toward achieving it each and every day it is your expected result.

While it may seem like it is a play on words there is scientific evidence that suggests that success is a direct result of positive thinking.  Why else would athletes who train for and achieve grueling physical feats invest money and time into positive self-talk and mental imagery?  I have tried it myself during a tough work out and it truly does work.

Intended and expected result has replaced the word “goal” in our business.  Our sales objectives are expected results not a hope and a prayer.  How else will our business move forward and grow if we don’t expect results?

There are a ton of things I plan to rethink with this methodology in my personal life.  Losing weight, walking the dog more, taking more family time but before I get to all that I think I have to tackle my To-Do list so it is less of a wish list and features only my intended and expected activities.
